Christian Lacroix Opens First New York City Boutique

7 Dec 2007 16:57 Africa/Lagos

Christian Lacroix Opens First New York City Boutique

NEW YORK, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ --

This year marks not only the 20th anniversary of Christian Lacroix, but also the year of his first New York City store opening. Following the first US boutique in Las Vegas at the Forum Shops in August 2006, the French designer has opened his second US store, and first in New York, on December 5 at 36 East 57th Street.

Says Christian Lacroix, "I will never forget how supportive the United States and New York were at the very beginning of my career, so it is a legitimate return to my 'American roots' twenty years later, after my first show here."

The highly anticipated New York store carries on the new design concept introduced by the Las Vegas store, combining contemporary and French Baroque elements to create the unique universe of Christian Lacroix. The space is rich in patterns, graphic details and bold colors: The store utilizes natural materials such as walnut veneers printed with signature kaleidoscopic patterns by Christian Lacroix. Wall coverings are decorated with a scene-scape of the designer's native Arles in a rustic print. There is a totem bearing the recurring symbols in his designs such as the sun, the heart and the color red. Fitting rooms bear old world French crown moldings and ceiling appliqués, complemented by contemporary chandeliers. Christian Lacroix has collaborated again with KREO Gallery and the Pavlik Design Team on the design and production of the 1,741 square foot boutique.

Upon opening, the store carries the Fall 2007 collection of womenswear, menswear and accessories.

Christian Lacroix founded his Haute Couture house in Paris in 1987 after time at Jean Patou and Hermes. His Haute Couture collections, famed for ultra- luxe and artful theatricality, were joined by elegant ready-to-wear collections in 1988, followed by fantastical shoes, bags and jewelry in 1989.

DrJays.Com Introduces Model Search Contest, 'Fresh Faces Of Spring 2008'

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ --

DrJays.com, the leading online retailer of street fashion and DJ Networks' flagship website, introduces their inaugural model search contest, Fresh Faces of Spring 2008. Participants upload their 30-second video entry onto the site, which is then viewed by an audience of approximately 1.7 million unique visitors per month. Two winners - - one male, one female -- will be flown to New York City in January 2008 to shoot the DrJays.com Spring 2008 fashion campaign, with additional major prizes. Entries close January 9, 2008; winners will be announced 14 days after.

"Fresh Faces of Spring was created in response to the overwhelming feedback we receive from our customers, who contact us daily looking for the chance to appear on the site," says Simone Kapsalides, DrJays.com's Content Manager. "Instead of booking professional models for our Spring 2008 campaign, we're giving two winners the chance to come to New York and star in a photo shoot for the leading online retailer of street fashion."

"DrJays.com is partnering with Brightcove, the leading Internet TV service, as one of the first launches utilizing Brightcove's Private Label Consumer Media functionality," says Doug Stradley, Brightcove's Business Development Manager. "This will allow DrJays.com consumers to upload videos to the site and compete for the chance to star in their next fashion campaign."

Heidi Klum’s Angels Walk on the Runway in Los Angeles

Super Models Turn To Super TV Show Hostesses

Models may look pretty, but can they hold a TV show together? The truth is, while the still camera may love leggy models, the TV camera is another beast altogether; it takes a certain gregarious presence to work that small screen. In honor of the return of Heidi Klum and another season of "Project Runway," here's a rundown of the stars who have worked it both in high fashion and in TV-land.

Tyra Banks, "America's Next Top Model"

Honestly, you can't turn on the TV anymore without seeing fresh episodes or reruns of "Top Model," or Tyra's talk show, or … well, Tyra in pretty much anything. Earlier in her career, she was lovely but still a bit awkward as she tried to play traditional acting roles ("Higher Learning," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"), but once she realized her own persona was the best role ever, she's been rocking it. Her critiques of the models can sometimes be brutal, but she's been there and always tempers her comments with a nice gravitas. And she's still in the running toward becoming America's Next Top Mogul.

Heidi Klum

The willowy Klum was an early '90s runway phenom who rocketed back to the A-list with the brilliant competitive reality show "Project Runway." Klum's beauty and straightforward presentation work well on the show, where she's the host and head of the panel of judges, but wisely lets contestant coach Tim Gunn have the lion's share of the attention. And her cute German accent somehow makes hearing "Nick, you ahr aught" a little easier to take. Auf Wiedersehen, hiatus; welcome Season 4!

Janice Dickinson, "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"

The self-billed "world's first supermodel" splashed back into consciousness in early seasons of "ANTM." Yes, she borders on being a caricature, but you can't deny her entertainment value. She jazzed up "The Surreal Life" and has written several books, all snarky. And she's got a healthy ego: "I was Versace's muse, I was Valentino's muse, I was Alaia's muse, Lancetti's muse, Calvin Klein's, Halston's. I could go on and on."

Twiggy, "America's Next Top Model"

This lady has some great genes. Ever since she was the waifish pinup girl for Swinging London and Carnaby Street, she's evolved into a strong actress and is as lovely as ever. She's taken a stab at traditional acting ("The Boy Friend" anyone?) as well as the short-lived 1991 series "Princesses." But she's hit her stride on "ANTM" as a gentle but articulate critic of model performance, and seems to have the modeling biz in good perspective.

Linda Has A Blog

I created this FM&B blog for Linda Ikeji's magazine. But I am afraid that she cannot manage it and I have to update it whenever I can do so.

Linda has her own kind of social titbits blog and seems to be more comfortable with such issues than have a niche blog on fashion, modeling and beauty.
